Linda Hacker

Linda Hacker is a Brooklyn based fine art/street photographer who uses her photography to explore the urban environment’s ambiguities, questions, and imperfections. Linda’s love of street photography first took hold in a workshop with Jay Maisel. As that interest developed into a passion, she moved from a focus on graphical street images to the use of abstraction as a way to blur boundaries and express emotion. Linda’s journey has been greatly enhanced by workshops with Alex Webb, Rebecca Norris Webb, Arthur Myerson, and Sam Abell. Her major influences are Ernst Haas, Saul Leiter, and Gueorgui Pinkhassov.

For Linda, much of the joy of photography is in uncovering these abstractions and meeting the challenge of portraying them through the camera. Linda achieves the abstractions in her work through the use of reflections, silhouettes, shadows and “shooting through” — no digital manipulation is used. Linda is a member of the artists roster of Soho Photo Gallery in downtown Manhattan.
