Helene Taylor, calls herself a community artist. She and her husband moved to Selma in Dec. of 2020 to offer their gifts as artists for Selma and the Black Belt. Taylor has a BA in Communications with a minor in Photography from Loyola University in New Orleans. She worked as a portrait photographer shortly but her career path led to education as a pre-school teacher for ten years. She led an after-school program called, Art in Park for 5 years, and then began as an Artist in Residence at University of Alabama’s Arts in Medicine program for 10 years also. She is currently the art manager for her husband, Trés Taylor- Works on Tarpaper. Taylor is most fulfilled when she is making art with people of all ages. “I’ve witnessed time and time again the healing power of art.”
