EnglishΒ

Hans Silvester’s vocation began in childhood. Born in 1938 in Germany, he started his career at the age of fourteen in a photographer’s studio and graduated three years later. He went on the road through Europe. In 1960, Camargue was published with a text by Jean Giono. Provence became his home, he settled there in 1960.

Travels follow one another, long-distance reports, patience and passion: through his publications in the press, his dozens of exhibitions and some fifty books.Β Hans Silvester, asserts himself as an ardent defender of ecology, Calavon “The murdered river”, an outstanding wildlife photographer “The Cats in the sun” “The Horses of the Camargue.”

Nature is his second nature. We can see in him the first environmentalist activist to have seized the photographic tool as a weapon of persuasion. The evolution of the inhabitants of a Basque village or seize the last rites of the primitive people in Ethiopia.
In love with the Earth, he is also in love with the beings that populate it, including animals. His photos of horses or cats (a huge success in bookstores) are a testimony to this.

His work is a whole that tells us the beauty of the world and shows a great independence.

Hans Silvester never seeks effect, he chooses his subjects and lets himself be carried along by chance.Β He chooses his subjects and lets himself be carried along by luck, a good fairy devoted to those who persevere in asking for it. His images, chosen among thousands, draw the adventure of a man and of photographic creation.
