Call for application for the 6th edition of the Photographic Nights of Selma
You have until July 15, 2025 to apply!
The Photographic Nights of Selma can be summed up in two words: Quality and Friendliness.
Quality through the high standards of its selection, and Friendliness through the hospitality of photographers being hosted by locals and their encounters with the public.
THE FESTIVAL WILL TAKE PLACE
FROM OCTOBER 30th TO NOVEMBER 2nd 2025
The spirit of the festival lies in its three evenings of open-air screenings in the heart of the village of Pierrevert, in its natural amphitheater.
Each evening, from Thursday to Saturday, around fifteen selected artist projects are shown on a giant outdoor screen. It is an opportunity for photographers to present their work to a large and growing audience. The daytime is dedicated to discovering exhibitions held in various venues across the Selm area, to encounters between photographers and the public, as well as to conferences.
The Photographic Nights of Selma, was initiated by French photographer Stéphane Kossmann – founder of Les Nuits Photographiques de Pierrevert in France – and in partnership with Foot Soldier Park & Art Revive.
The event takes place over three days in the town of Selma, featuring exhibitions by international photographers, meetings, portfolio readings and a public screening.
The festival is also committed to developing exchanges with young artists in the process of professionalizing their work, notably through photographic walks and round-table discussions.
Every year, some thirty international photographers take part.
The Selma Photographic Nights Festival is a unique opportunity for professionals, amateurs and enthusiasts, not to mention the curious, to share their passion.
At the end of the festival, prizes are awarded by a jury composed of figures from the world of photography and the arts, as well as by the public.
The jury prize includes an invitation, with travel expenses covered, to the
Nuits Photographiques de Pierrevert
festival in south of France, which will take place the last week of july 2026.
Access to the festival’s exhibitions, screenings, and conferences is free of charge.
THE ARTISTIC COMMITTEE LAUNCHES THE CALL FOR ENTRIES:
There is no set theme — only the requirement for unique perspectives and clearly asserted points of view through a series of 15 to 30 photographs.
Our aim: to offer a broad panorama of recent photographic work of all kinds — reflections on society, landscapes, fashion, portraiture, still life, explorations of intimacy, or proposals diverging from the current zeitgeist: tributes to lightness, ironic interludes, optimistic initiatives, and more.
Selected series will be presented as photo-sound montages.
Each selected photographer commits to being present at least on the evening of their screening and the following day for audience engagement.
The screening date will be arranged according to their availability.
In Selma, photographers will be hosted by locals for the duration of their stay, with lunch meals covered by the festival. Travel costs remain the responsibility of the photographers.
Author Commitments:
Photographers certify and guarantee that the submitted works are original creations under intellectual property law and do not constitute infringement of protected works. They bear full responsibility for the photographic works they present.
They must include a note for any work generated using AI.
To promote their work and the Festival, authors grant the “Nuits Photographiques de Pierrevert” the right to share excerpts of their work, with credit, free of charge (on the Internet, in programs, posters, flyers, and press articles).
They commit to being present at least on the evening of their screening.
The list of selected photographers will be announced by email at the end of August 2025.
For on-site organization, a form will be sent to selected candidates and must be returned promptly.
We have a team of video/sound editors who can produce your slideshow. If you prefer, you may also send us your pre-edited film following our technical guidelines.
We place special emphasis on the soundtrack. You may submit an original audio accompaniment for your images. Each montage will be reviewed and approved by the festival’s artistic coordination team.
Important!
The duration of the photo montage for a final selection of 15 to 30 photos must not exceed 4 minutes.
Submitting your application implies full acceptance of these guidelines by the photographers.
