Ruben is from Sacramento, CA, where he was taught how to use a camera at an early age from his father, who learned from his father. Turning passion into career, Ruben works as a cinematographer in both fiction and documentary spaces telling stories of underrepresented communities in a mission to bring visibility and empathy to a wider audience.

As a photographer, Ruben continues his mission by photographing the specificity of processes that at first may seem unique to a community, but actually bridge cultural gaps.

Projects that Ruben has served as cinematographer on have received numerous awards including a CLIO Award, Best Series and Best Documentary at Tribeca X. While attending USC, he received the Edward and Mildred Troutner Award for Cinematography. More recently, he received the American Society of Cinematographer Vision Award.
