Pain in solitude

Alzheimer’s disease is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that causes the progressive and irreversible loss of mental functions. To date, 1.2 million people are affected in France, 225,000 cases are newly detected each year, including 32,000 people under the age of 65 (3.1%). In addition to the financial cost of treating this disease to ease the daily lives of patients, the emotional, psychological and physical costs endured by more than 1.8 million caregivers are difficult to quantify and little highlighted.
