Biography:
Chelsea Mukenya is a Kenyan-born portrait photographer based in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. Living in the diaspora, influences Mukenya’s work as she recreates feelings of home. Nature, connection with others and self are all integral to her work. Through her images, she hopes to invoke a sense of longing and tranquility.

“Respite”
In a world where we are constantly bombarded with information and global grief, rest has become increasingly valuable and an act of resistance. In this series, Mukenya seeks to explore themes of respite, solitude and self-discovery. Nature is integral to her photography because it often serves as an escape from the “noise”. This is not to say that we should ignore the realities of life but that perhaps, we can find balance through moments of relief. Her hope is that this series reflects the importance of stillness and invokes a sense of serenity.
